Who charters it
Strong for one to four passengers moving 300 to 800 nm in a hurry, especially into short runways and mountain airports where a jet is either unavailable or uneconomic. At 330 ktas it holds its own against a very light jet on shorter legs, the 2,535 ft runway requirement opens up small fields, and the hourly cost is among the lowest of anything that flies above the weather. It is not the right aircraft for a group, for bulky luggage, or for a client who wants a jet. The cabin is 13 ft 3 in long and 4 ft tall, so passengers sit low and nobody moves around, luggage is capped at 330 lb in the six-seat layout, and some charter clients and some corporate travel policies require two engines, which takes the TBM off the table before the specifications ever matter. The TBM 960 is quick and short-field capable, with a landing distance near 2,430 ft and a short-field takeoff distance around 2,535 ft per the manufacturer, so ASE and EGE are well within reach for the light loads this cabin actually carries. TEX is possible on the same logic that makes the King Airs and PC-12 workable there: runway length is not the limiter, sustained climb through terrain up to 14,000 ft and summer density altitude are, and the TBM's smaller fuel and payload margins mean a hot afternoon eats into useful load faster than in the King Airs. As with the PC-12, it is single-engine, so screen for client or corporate-policy objections to a single over this terrain before booking TEX or Leadville, and expect a four to five passenger practical load to be the real limit for this market rather than published seating.
