About the Citation CJ4 Gen3

The Citation CJ4 Gen3 is the current production CJ4: the largest and fastest CitationJet, single-pilot certified, carrying up to ten passengers at 451 ktas, with about 1,927 nm of range with four passengers aboard. The airframe and engines carry over from the Gen2, so what is new is the flight deck and cabin rather than the performance.

Who charters it

Reach for it on the same missions as a CJ4 Gen2: longer-range light-jet trips for up to eight passengers where midsize range is wanted without midsize cost, and smaller airports competing light jets cannot use. The Gen3 story worth telling a risk-conscious client is safety equipment rather than speed, since Garmin Emergency Autoland will land the aircraft at a suitable airport if the pilot is incapacitated. Note the fleet is very new, so availability is thin and positioning is more likely to be a factor than on the Gen2.

Colorado mountain airports: strong

Same airframe, wing and FJ44-4A engines as the CJ4 Gen2, so the Gen2 mountain assessment carries over unchanged: sub-3,500 ft takeoff performance even in high temperatures, EGE straightforward, ASE and TEX workable with normal seasonal payload and fuel planning. The Gen3 changes are avionics and cabin systems and do not affect field performance.

Planning guidance only. The operator, the AFM performance data, and conditions on the day are the final authority.
